Gianni (second from left) was in Bari yesterday “to promote sales of citrus grown in Taranto province. Trees there have been gravely damaged,” he wrote on his Facebook, “by the snow and the freezing temperatures over the last week. We are calling on government agencies to give the maximum aid possible to farmers and all sectors that are facing one of the worst crises in our lifetime.”
Gianni is the president of Coldiretti Puglia, the regional office of the National Independent Farmers Confederation.
There have been reports of more than 3 feet of snowfall in central and southern Italy and most of Italy remains “snowed in” this week according to most accounts.
